Most people plan the airport transfer for the trip home and forget the one that starts the journey: getting from your own front door to the terminal on the morning of the flight. A home pickup is the part of a Frankfurt Airport transfer that removes the most stress — no parking, no dragging cases onto the S-Bahn, no wondering whether the taxi you ordered for 4:30am is actually coming. This guide explains exactly how a door-to-terminal pickup works with FrankfurtRide: how we set the pickup time, what happens on the day, what changes if your flight does, and which towns around Frankfurt we collect from every morning.
How the pickup time is calculated
We work backwards from the flight. Airlines generally recommend being at the terminal about two hours before a European departure and about three hours before a long-haul one; you tell us the departure time and the airline, and we count back from there. Three things are added:
- Drive time from your address to the terminal on the day — Wiesbaden, Mainz or Darmstadt is about 30 minutes, Heidelberg about an hour.
- A 45-minute buffer for the unplanned: a slow lift, a lane closure on the A3, a bag that will not close.
- Rush-hour margin on weekday mornings between roughly 7 and 9 and evenings between 16 and 19, when the Frankfurter Kreuz junction adds time to every approach.
So for a 10:00 European flight from Wiesbaden the arithmetic is: 10:00 minus two hours at the terminal, minus 30 minutes of driving, minus a 45-minute buffer — a pickup at about 6:45, and a little earlier on a weekday. The calculation is a recommendation, not a rule. If you have hand luggage only and a fast-track pass you may prefer a tighter schedule; if you like to be early, say so and we move it.
Pickups from 4am — every day
The first wave of departures at Frankfurt leaves around 6am, which means pickups from the surrounding towns at 4am and 4:30am. That is the slot where an ad-hoc taxi or a night bus most often lets people down. A pre-booked home pickup is a confirmed booking with a named driver assigned the evening before; the car is outside at the agreed minute whatever the hour, and there is no night surcharge hidden in the fare. A fixed price is a fixed price.
What happens on the day
- The driver messages you on approach — usually 10 to 15 minutes out — so you are not standing on the pavement with your cases in the rain.
- Luggage from the door. The driver comes to the entrance, loads the cases, and that is the last time you lift them until the check-in desk. If you live on an upper floor without a lift, mention it when booking so we allow a couple of extra minutes.
- Straight to the right terminal. Frankfurt now operates Terminal 1 and the new Terminal 3; Terminal 2 has been closed since April 2026 and its airlines have moved. We confirm the terminal from your airline and drop you at the departures kerb of the correct one, so you are never sent across the airport on the shuttle with your bags.
- Child seats, water, quiet car. Child seats are free on request, there is a bottle of water in every car, and at 4am the driver will chat or leave you in peace — whichever you prefer.
The whole point of a home pickup is that the only thing you have to do on the morning of the flight is close the front door.
If your flight moves
For a departure, flight tracking works differently from an arrival: no system can know your airline has rescheduled you until the airline tells you. So the rule is simple — if your departure time changes, message us and we move the pickup with it, free of charge, right up to the day of travel. If you decide not to travel at all, cancellation is free. For the return journey the tracking is automatic: the driver watches the inbound flight and adjusts the arrivals pickup to the actual landing time, with 90 minutes of free waiting after touchdown.
The return: pickup at arrivals with a name sign
Add the return leg to the same booking and the second half of the trip is handled for you. On landing, the driver is inside the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name — at Terminal 1 or on the arrivals level of Terminal 3 — and walks you to the car. No taxi rank, no queue after a long-haul flight, no negotiating a fare at midnight. The price is the same fixed figure you were quoted for the outbound leg, and the drop-off is back at your own front door.
Payment, receipts and cancellation
- Pay by Link: a secure card-payment link sent after booking, settled before travel.
- Cash to the driver at the end of the journey.
- Receipt by email for expenses — one clean figure per leg, no meter surprises.
- Free cancellation, so booking early to secure a 4am slot carries no risk.
From which towns do we collect?
From anywhere in the Rhine-Main region and well beyond — every destination page on this site has a reverse page for the journey to the airport, with the fixed price for each vehicle class shown up front. The most common home pickups are:
- Wiesbaden to Frankfurt Airport — about 30 km, around 30 minutes
- Mainz to Frankfurt Airport — about 30 km, around 30 minutes
- Darmstadt to Frankfurt Airport — about 30 km, around 30 minutes
- Bad Homburg to Frankfurt Airport — about 25 km, around 30 minutes
- Hanau to Frankfurt Airport — about 35 km, around 35 minutes
- Offenbach to Frankfurt Airport — about 20 km, around 25 minutes
- Aschaffenburg to Frankfurt Airport — about 45 km, around 45 minutes
- Gießen to Frankfurt Airport — about 70 km, around 50 minutes
- Heidelberg to Frankfurt Airport — about 85 km, around 1 hour
Each page quotes the price for everything from a standard car for up to 3 passengers to the Business Van for up to 8 — useful when a whole family or a group of colleagues is leaving from one address.
Our recommendation
If your flight leaves before 8am, if you have more than one case per person, or if you simply do not want to think about parking, a home pickup is the calmest way to start a trip. Enter your address and flight time, get a fixed price, and book your pickup. The return leg can be added in the same booking.
